With traditional centripetal units, the ability to change the variables is either impossible or limited. The PASCO Centripetal Force Accessory is designed to make changing the mass, radius, or force quick and easy.
Rotate the centripetal force apparatus by hand, keeping the orange indicator in the middle of the apparatus aligned with the indicator. Time the rotations with a stopwatch to calculate the angular speed and the centripetal force. Find the centripetal force directly by using a hanging mass to stretch the spring the same length it has when it is being rotated.
While spinning, the orange indicator is always visible at the center of rotation. When the rotation speed is correct, the orange indicator is aligned with the black indicator, which indicates that the spinning mass is hanging vertical and the string is pulling horizontally on the mass.
